The experience of being rescued en route to his home mooring after engine failure has led the owner to give up sailing. This is a pity because this Westerly Pentland looks in good condition to me and was antifouled with new anode in June 2025.
The rigging was done in 2017, the upholstery is clean though worn in the fore cabin and it seems overall a well-cared for boat. The only other major issue is the shredded UV strip on the roller furler. The algae stains on the sail covers should be easily addressed. The spray hood is in good condition.
It has a new diesel fueled heater.
It has class B AIS and he used Navionics on an iPad with a Quark AIS unit as well as a Garmin 152. It has an Autohelm 3000.
The boat can be sold with or without the reconditioned engine - video on this website - but the buyer will have to pick it up from Essex at their own cost. It is a Volvo MD17C 35hp, indirectly cooled.
Without the replacement engine, the vessel's price is £5950.
There is a an inflatable dinghy and a 3hp Johnson outboard included.
With bags of space and a silly price this is great opportunity to acquire a good marque and re-engine it. It could also make a viable liveaboard or stayaboard for a couple, under the right circumstances.
As for the owner, his dream of crossing the Atlantic is over for him. Shame.
