We have bought a larger boat and thought that our children would like to take over the RJ85, but unfortunately they are not interested. Therefore, the boat has been on land for a couple of seasons now.
We bought the boat in 2006. With a LYS rating of 1.06, it shows quite good speed characteristics for a boat of this size. We have had many great sailing trips in northern Lake Vättern. The RJ85 is a fun and pleasant sailboat that responds well to trimming and has good bite in upwind sailing. All lines are pulled down to the cockpit, making it easy to sail the boat alone.
The boat is forgiving and has served us well with its simple, safe, and well-sailing character. The low freeboard means that it does not take much wind, which makes it easier for tight maneuvers. Together with a keel weight of just over 50% of the boat's displacement, it has little drift in crosswinds.
Our RJ85 is from 1972, boat number 6. It has a good mainsail and a genoa that has many years left. Fresh mattresses that have been stored indoors every winter. All mooring equipment is included. The forepeak accommodates a full-length double berth. In the salon, there are two full-length berths on the sofas.
Almost brand new 2-burner alcohol stove. Considering the boat's age and that it has not been taken care of for a couple of seasons, there is some work to be done on it.
The boat is on a trailer at Åmmebergs boat club.
