The Pacific Seacraft Orion 27 is a solidly built and very capable small cruiser designed by Henry Morshladt and first built by Pacific Seacraft in California in 1979. Over forty years later these are still widely recognized and sought after as seakindly blue water cruisers. This is the type of cruising sailboat that one might take up the Inside Passage, to Hawaii, or for the truly adventurous circumnavigate the globe.
An excerpt from a Blue Water Boats review states: "unsurprisingly for a Mohrschladt design, the Orion 27 has conservative lines. Under the waterline is a long keel with a forefoot cutaway to improve nimbleness and reduce wetted area. The sections carry the tried and true wine-glass shape. Don’t expect record setting pace with this kind of shape; think strong, safe, and good manners for heaving-to in the rough."
There are many features I appreciate, like many others, about the Pacific Seacraft 27 in general are:
-Heavy duty construction / 10,000 lb displacement
-6' 2" interior headroom
-Teak and holly sole with hatches and hatch opening banded in solid teak
-Functional and comfortable cabin layout
-Heavy bronze deck hardware and opening port lights
-27" stanchions and lifelines
Features that I appreciate about this Pacific Seacraft 27 Orion in particular are:
-Cutter rig appropriate for blue water cruising
-Tanbark sails
-Newer Yanmar engine with low hours
This Pacific Seacraft Orion 27 would benefit from some exterior varnish work, and the navigation electronics could be updated, however, she presents an excellent opportunity for anyone looking for a capable cruiser that can take you safely to sea in comfort and style for as long as you like.
