The Channel 32/323 (same boat but later)  was  designed by David Thomas for British Hunter with the aim of providing a well-mannered, stable cruising yacht, very seaworthy but with comfortable accommodation and a turn of speed.  She was awarded RCD Category A certificate (ocean going), and is easily handled by two crew (even single handed) but there is room for up to 7 people.
Some were sold as kits but ‘Ayla’ (Emily Rose for a time) is a factory-completed Channel 323. The interior has a spacious but warm feeling with teak and teak-faced plywood. Built 1991 to 2001. Ayla is 1995.
We completed several upgrades then cruised extensively, Hebrides to Northern Ireland. We werre able to explore the less accessible sea-lochs, taking advantage of the shallow draft and ability to take the ground. We are now seeking a vessel with comparable comfort but have more distant destinations in mind.
Upgrades:
Saloon windows replaced with 8mm polycarbonate, through fixed with stainless seal-screws into epoxy coated marine-ply inner frame, satin-varnished to match interior. Neoprene seals. (2023) . Forehatch re-bedded.Well
Furler replaced with new Profurl with new forestay, by professional rigger. Remaining rigging professionally checked and tuned (2022).
New genoa tracks and cars installed to rigger’s /sailmaker’s advice. (2022) A self tacking jib (Kemp v good condition) is the default but this gives the opportunity to change for an overlapping Genoa. A Tapedrive composite Genoa (about 110%) (good condition and good shape) is included.  There is also a new 145% Genoa (designed Saildoctor Queensferry) but that would be a separate negotiation.
2022 new stack-pack with boat’s name in  night-visible letters.
Professionally reconditioned Eberspacher D4 (near new) installed 2022 with outlets each cabin including heads, working as drying room.
2022 100watt  flexible solar panel, mounted on sprayhood.
2023 saloon lighting upgraded (stainless spots) and bunk lighting installed forward cabin.
Our 2021 survey can be shared. We have now sanded the ballast keels and applied 2 coats zinc rich primer and 2 of antifouling. remainder of underwater hull primed and antifouled.
The survey indicates some localised scuffing of topsides is cosmetic. We have not yet re-coated as it might be better to leave that to suit the taste of new owners.
