Elan 40

The Elan 40 is designed by Rob Humphreys' top-ranked yacht design team and is a comfortable fast cruiser that, thanks to its size, accommodates three nice separate double cabins and a large comfortable saloon with a fantastic galley that is otherwise only found in larger boats. The lines are classic and many consider this to be one of the most beautiful modern sailboats that also have very good sailing characteristics. This nice, well-maintained, animal and smoke-free, well-equipped boat, which was used as an exhibition boat by Elan in its first year, is now being sold by the second owner/user.

The Elan 40 is solidly built and at the same time designed to be fast and comfortable. Control and quality were therefore the summary when the model was tested by boat journalists on a sailing trip in up to 20 m/s. What impressed the most was the rudder control, where the balance is as good as it can be while the boat can be steered with fingertips thanks to the large wheel. When a gust of wind comes, you feel the acceleration immediately. The LYS rating is 1.33, which means you sail past most boats.

The cockpit is large and works well thanks to a good layout for both leisure sailors and more experienced sailors. The boat is easy to sail and all lines are led to the cockpit. Seldén rig with Single Line Reef system in the boom, together with Raymarine autopilot connected directly to the tiller, means that even a single sailor can easily reef while sailing without having to leave the cockpit.

This is the sought-after version with double aft cabins. This generation of Elan has a beautiful interior in knife-cut kayamahogany with a lot of bent glue-laminated wood, which according to many is not far behind the Orust builds. Directly to port below the stairs, there is a toilet with a holding tank and the possibility of deck discharge. On the starboard side, you will find a really nice L-shaped galley with a 185 cm long countertop. In front of the galley, there is a large U-shaped sofa that can easily be converted into a comfortable double berth, and opposite on the port side, next to the navigation table, there is a convertible longitudinal sofa. The forward cabin has a double berth that is 220 cm and 200 cm long respectively, and there is also a separate toilet.

This Elan 40 is of the updated model with improved cockpit layout, a new pedestal that provides space for the larger wheel, higher Seldén rig with Dyform shrouds, lead keel, and Volvo Penta MD 2040 with saildrive for even better maneuverability. The boat is also well-equipped with, among other things, a fully battened mainsail, Genoa 1 and jib in cruising laminate, as well as upgraded winches, spinnaker equipment, and radar.

The boat is ready for sailing at the dock in Torslanda, recently serviced with new oils, filters, and impeller. The saildrive bellows was replaced in April 2023.
