Dufour D 34

Thistle Dhu (Thistle – the emblem of Scotland, Dhu – Dark/Hidden) is a much loved and well maintained one owner yacht, purchased in 2006.  A 6 berth Dufour 34 performance, The Umberto Felci design, is category A,  and was awarded the European boat of the year.
I selected a 2 cabin and shole keel options as that suits East coast sailing and can be taken on most of the European canals.
It was a very well specified boat from new with many optional extra’s (larger engine, upgraded winches, adjustable genoa lead cars, topping lift & #3 reefing, electric windless, cockpit table and spray hood, full electronics with large chart plotter, Eberspacer heater with 4 outlets, and the limited edition Arperge Pack).
As a two cabin version it provides an optimum balance of space and berths when fully crewed. It has considerable interior storage, an L shaped galley with a large fridge and two sinks, and a full size navigation table.
It is a fast cruiser, well able to achieve 6 knots or more even in light winds.  Although I’m not a racing sailor, the boat performance was a key factor in my purchase decision and I have not been disappointed.  The boat is setup for safe single handed sailing, with all control lines led back to cockpit and fully battened main sail with lazy jacks.
Over the years the accommodation has been further improved – rear cabin extended to provide increased space for more comfortable dual occupancy, AIS added including provision of navigation data onto smart devices/tablets, 2 blade gori folding prop, additional 240v heater for drying out sailing gear, additional 240v outlets in the main cabin and USB power sockets at the navigation station.
The boat has been comprehensively maintained and serviced by the owner.  Every year during the winter layup the engine is fully serviced, the boat interior is maintained at a reasonable temperature with a heater together with a humidifier which ensures the moisture level is maintained at a low level.   Prior to re-launching the old antifouling is sanded and new antifouling is applied (dark blue Flag International has proven to best suit the East Coast Rivers).  It is a very straightforward boat for an owner to maintain.  The boat is sold all setup and prepared for immediate use, all ready to sail away anywhere.
