We bought “Weaver” as a family sailing yacht and renamed her Anam Cara (Gaelic for “soul friend”). We spent years fully stripping her and renewing inside and out. Externally she was stripped and epoxied, the decks were stripped, and old grip replaced with kiwi grip. New spray hood (custom built) and external cushions and life raft added. All plumbing was replaced with macerators fitted in both heads and push button flush systems. Electrics were rewired and labelled; sockets brought to modern standard with USB chargers. Solar system was installed with an internal monitor. This enabled us as a family to travel for weeks at a time, anchoring in remote and isolated places without the need for shore power or a generator. Inside all woodwork was sanded and re-varnished, the roofing removed for insulation to be fitted and all window seals replaced. The two forward windows were replaced with blue tinted glass to reduce glare and the main saloon hatch glass replaced. Lighting was replaced with low voltage lighting and speakers inside and externally replaced. Internally we fitted red lighting for night-time. We sailed Anam Cara in 2018 to 2021, mostly weekend sailings to Millport and Arran etc but each summer (covid allowing) we enjoyed 4 to 5 weeks traveling round the Mull of Kintyre to Ghia, Jura & Oban, West to the Treshnish Isles, Mull, Iona and North to Skye. Truly amazing. She has been through the Crinan twice also. She has faced 40+ knot winds and high swell and has always been sound and safe. She will be sold with safety clips, oilskins, safety harnesses etc The Moody 42 Aft Cockpit MKI is synonymous with a practical and pleasurable layout, back when workmanship was of high quality, she is sturdy and safe, having stood the test of time. These older craft (1977-1981) - built before Moodys were built by Marine Projects in Plymouth in an automated production line - are very stout and strong, with solid joinery inside massively over-engineered hulls.
