Moody 33s

The Moody 33 centre cockpit needs no introduction however Merry Mood is the sought after Moody 33S sister ship to the Moody 33 but with an aft cockpit. The MKI version first built initially in 1973 was superseded by the MKII some 5 years later in 1978 then finally the 333 in 1981. Between 1979 and 1982 Moody also introduced the less well known 33S. This edition continued to use the well proven Angus Primrose designed hull but with an aft cockpit. It was an immediate success because this layout offered more usable space with a large quarter possible double berth and designated chart table area and improved galley. Not too many Moody 33S’s were built and consequently are still in high demand for those in the know who want a comfortable and surprisingly fast 33 foot yacht. There is enough space and comfort to accommodate a large crew which makes the 33S the ideal family yacht. The double berth in the forepeak, two single saloon berths plus a double quarter berth ensures there is sufficient space for the most demanding crew. The design has stood the test of time and many have made offshore passages but the 33S is just as happy pottering along the coast. The easy to handle sloop rig with furling genoa plus Merry Mood has a Thorneycroft 35HP 4 cylinder engine that has enough power to cruise at 5 knots all day long.
