Smaragd Cruiser

Smaragd Cruiser is a great choice for those who want to sail like in the old days: fast on the reaches, quiet, and close to the water. It can withstand strong winds thanks to its heavy lead keel (52%).

History

This boat was built in 1987 at Rivalbåtar by the shipyard owner Roland Bergström and one of his colleagues for shared ownership. I purchased it in 2007 from them. The boat was stored and maintained by Rivalbåtar for the first 20 years. Some of the special solutions they implemented include:

  • Larger engine: 2-cylinder Yanmar diesel (2GM20F, 16 hp = capable even in headwinds) with a tank of about 50 liters.
  • Sturdy mast (Seldén E170) on deck = no leakage through the deck.

The boat is located in Norrköping.

Rigging and Deck

  • Stackpack (lazybag) 2016. Regular boom cover included.
  • Roller furling jib/Furlex (older than 10 years) with standing battens in good condition. Sewn UV protection 2016 (regular cover included).
  • Main sail 2009 (Gransegel, 2 reefs).
  • Genoa in good condition.
  • Spinnaker pole Forespar 2.10-5.25 meters.
  • Dyneema backstay 2009 (wire stays included).
  • Spinnaker pole (but no spinnaker).
  • Rodkick (no gas spring).
  • New jib halyard 2016.
  • Reefing system controlled entirely from the cockpit.
  • Winches: 2 Andersen 16 on the cabin roof, 4 Barbarossa 40.
  • 10 cleats on the cabin roof.
  • Double safety lines on deck.
  • Sprayhood 2010.
  • Large cockpit tent 2009 (no crouching).
  • Light brown, non-slip Treadmaster on deck.
  • Teak on cockpit floor and benches.
  • Fixed ladder on the transom.

Navigation

  • Log/echo sounder.
  • Compass.
  • Handheld Garmin GPS 72H, 2012 (positions but no map display).
  • Handheld VHF radio, Cobra Marine HH-415, 2012.
  • Autohelm/Raymarine 1000.
  • Tiller extension (useful for short-term steering assistance).

Below Deck

  • Four full-length berths.
  • Pull-out drawer for storing charts.
  • Laguna table with mounts in the saloon and cockpit.
  • Gas stove with oven.
  • Sink with pumps for sea and fresh water (60 liters).
  • Eberspächer Airtronic D2, 2004, renovated in 2016.
  • Toilet (Jabsco, new 2016) with stainless steel holding tank.
  • Curtains for privacy in the forepeak and toilet area.
  • 2 x 75 Ah batteries connected in parallel for both engine and consumption. A solution that provides more power for engine start than traditional separation. Easy to revert if desired.

Other Features

  • 2-blade folding propeller on straight shaft.
  • Starter motor renovated in 2010.
  • Bottom painted with VC17.
  • 2 anchors (Bruce type 7.5 and 10 kg) plus plenty of mooring lines (including a 100m unspliced anchor line).
  • Anchor line mounted under hatch on aft deck.
  • 8 fenders.
  • Cradle (Press & Son), cover frame with outriggers, tarpaulin.
