The 1973 Vollenhoven Sphere is a wonderful example of craftsmanship in the Dutch shipbuilding tradition. At 8.50 meters long and 3.10 meters wide, this classic sailboat offers both comfort and character.

The ship is built of steel, which ensures a robust construction and a solid sailing feel. Her elegant lines and wooden mast add to her traditional appearance, designed by the renowned J.K. Gipon and built by Kooijman en de Vries in Deil.

Inside, the Vollenhoven Sphere offers warm and cozy accommodations. The interior includes a dining area, pillows and mattresses, a compact refrigerator and a practical stove. The headroom of 1.75 meters ensures plenty of room to move around, even for taller sailors.

For overnight stays, two fixed berths and four more additional berths are available, ideal for families or groups who want to enjoy long days on the water.

This sphere is equipped with an 18-horsepower Sabb diesel engine, which starts electrically and features a folding propeller and a fixed spare propeller. With a 60-liter fuel tank and fuel economy of 1 liter per hour, the boat offers both efficiency and enough power for both short trips and longer trips.

Navigation and electronics are well represented with a compass, voltmeter, battery charger and shore power connection. Safety on board is ensured by a self-draining cockpit and a manual bilge pump.

With her characteristic gaff sail and five sails in adequate condition, this boat offers nice sailing characteristics. The mast is equipped with a balance weight allowing it to be easily lowered by one person, aided by a convenient "wind-up" provision in the deck.

The Vollenhoven Sphere has spent her life on the Friesian waters and the Wadden Sea.

She was recently donated to KNRM to support their work financially. KNRM as a unique non-profit organization receives donations in kind in addition to many donations.
