47.8ft Whiting made in New Zealand. (Whiting yachts are highly sought-after blue water cruising vessels due to their strength and handling at sea)
'Kekeni' is a very sleek vessel that is well-built, strong, and practical, and sails beautifully; pointing nicely into the wind under sail.
A well-proven seaworthy vessel that has sailed from New Zealand to the Pacific Islands, Australia, Asia, the Middle East, and the Mediterranean (and back to Asia).
She does not come with 'bells and whistles but instead has been modified to keep things simple and practical for cruising - her workings are easy to understand which provides more confidence when sailing.
Kekini has a Ford Lehman diesel engine; a solid, very simple, large motor that will last, with parts readily available anywhere. All points of the engine are easily accessible making servicing a breeze.
The engine also runs a heat exchanger for hot water and powers the fridge and freezer using a eutectic system that collectively does away with the need for generators and a gas hot water system.
Fuel filters have been converted to spin-on filters with an easy bleeding system.
Fuel tanks x 3 are made from stainless steel and have just been opened and thoroughly cleaned.
The electronics are kept to a minimum - only good quality brands have been installed (these are products I have used for many years on other yachts and have proven to be reliable and last).
The circuits and wiring are very simple - faults can easily be detected.
Kekeni has a very open layout below the deck with a spacious saloon area and huge settees that are great for entertaining. The open design also enables easy airflow to cool the boat when cruising in the tropics or hot climates.
Forward is a double V berth followed by 2 single bunks and adjacent is the shower and toilet. Aft port is the navigation station and then the captain's double cabin. Adjacent (starboard) is the galley that is fully equipped with all cooking and eating utensils and comes with a double sink, fridge, freezer, 3 gas burner gimbaled stove, and oven.
Kekini has a quality full teak interior with all new furnishings including cushions, bench tops, curtains, and carpet.
There is ample storage onboard.
Comes with an inflatable dinghy that is currently stored away below deck but can also be hung on davits for easy access when cruising.
***Kekeni is a great blue water or coastal cruiser that is very easy to sail with excellent visibility.
She would suit a solo sailer, couple, or young family who requires an open space for children to play where they can be easily monitored.
Sadly, it is time to move her on to someone who wants to take her cruising as we are no longer in a position to sail away.
If you would like to know more please give me a call.
Kekini is an Australian-registered vessel (and will not incur any customs duty if taken back to reside in Australia).
Currently berthed in Johor Bahru Malaysia.
