1984 Pearson 385 - USD 69,000

The Pearson 385 is a renowned cruising yacht, she offers a centre cockpit and excellent space below for her size.  These yachts are medium displacement, long fin and skeg, giving a comfortable ride in all conditions.  BLISS has proven herself as a world girdler and she comes to the market absolutely stacked with gear.  She has good capacity fuel and water tanks, see notes, and most of a cruiser's wish list for equipment.  In boom furling main is very easy to operate, a great feature say her owners.  A good sail inventory plus a telescopic bowsprit and spinnaker pole on mast.

The yacht’s light and airy interior boasts a well designed sea going galley, two double cabins and one bathroom/head.  The other head has been allocated a storage, this yacht is stacked, but that head may be returned if required.  The main saloon no longer has a central table but small tables swing up on each settee end, making the saloon yet more spacious.

Accommodation:

A two cabin yacht but with a clever settee conversion in the main saloon.  The forward bathroom/head now houses a ton a spares etc but may be reinstated if required.

Galley:

  • A good design with an opening port above the stove.  Refrigeration on this yacht is one top loading fridge plus another large DOMETIC CFX355 12/240 portable fridge/freezer which is securely fixed on the opposite side.  This has provided plenty of cold storage for this family of four on passage.

  • Pressurised hot and cold water plus foot pumped salt water.  The hot water heater is Raritan model 170611,6 gallon capacity.   The heating element is currently 240VAC version. The original 120VAC element is also onboard.

also heats using engine heat exchanger.

Showers:

One in aft bathroom c/w hot and cold water.

Heads:

  • SIMRAD NSS8 mfd at helm (2010)

  • SIMRAD IS20 wind instrument

  • SIMRAD IS20 combi instrument: shows depth, water temperature, boat speed through the water

Machinery:

  • The engine is a PERKINS 4-108 with 4250Hr. It had a major service in 2014: head gasket replaced, injectors serviced, injection pump rebuilt.   In 2019 the engine was physically removed (into the main saloon) for cleaning and painting, and the rear main oil seal was replaced (to solve the decades-long oil leak from the rear seal).

  • 6.3 gph SPECTRA Ventura VT-150D-12 watermaker

Electrical System:

The DC electrical system includes two battery banks: Bank 1 is the main house battery, comprising two 6V 300Ah AGM batteries, combined as a back of 12V 300Ah (under companionway ladder) ; Bank 2 is the backup, or starter battery, which is a single 12V AGM battery. Charging by a VICTRON DC to DC charger from the main house bank. Also being charged by the engine alternator a PRESTO lite 50 amp.

Have better alternator as back up and regulator but power we make and need is enough with what she has.

AC Electrical System

The AC electrical system was originally designed for operation at 120VAC, with US-style outlets.   However the AC-to-DC battery charger "STERLING ProCharge Ultra" has an input voltage range of 90-270V, 40-70Hz, so it is safe to hook up to any type of shore power.   However, since all of the AC devices on the boat are designed for 120VAC, when the shore power is higher than 110VAC, owners typically do not apply shore power directly to the outlets; instead they switch to using the output of the DC-to-AC inverter (12VDC to 120VAC) to supply AC power to the outlets.

Solar has 2 330w panels connected to a VICTRON MPPT 100/ 50 Smartsolar charger

The wind generator is a MarineKinetix MK450 Marine Wind Turbine.   This wind generator is mounted at the top of a pole on the stern (which also functions as the pole for the outboard engine hoist).   The maximum power output of the generator is about 400 watts (about 28 amps @14 volts into the batteries).

Tank:

The forward fuel tank was re-purposed from its original function as a water tank.   When the inside of the tank was painted it was with  3M AC-236 FUEL TANK SEALANT (2 HOUR).

The total tank capacity is approximately 53 US gallons (200 liters).

Aft Fuel tank is the day tank holds 45 US gallons (170 Liters ).
